Remote Version (shown with 2 engine levers)

Electronic (FBW) Steering Wheel

Steering Wheel operating modes:
> Fly-By-Wire Mode: the steering wheel determines the rate of turn of the vessel (the wheel does not determine the rudder angle). When the wheel is in the centre detent, the heading is held. The rudder is moved automatically by the Autopilot Computer. This is the principal operating mode.
> Servo Mode: the rudder position is controlled by the wheel. The rudder follows the wheel movement, like in a mechanical steering system. This is a simple mode, which does not require a Gyro and a Flux Gate installed.
> Autopilot Mode: the heading is held or can be modified from any Heading Display or Autopilot Display in the system. The wheel is guarded.
> NAV Mode: a programmed course or route (as set in a GPS or plotter) will be intercepted and held.

Up to eight Fly-By-Wire steering wheels can be connected, up to 200 meters (660 feet) apart.
A
mobile (remote) Steering Wheel on a 6m / 20ft telephone cord is available as an alternative to the standard panel mounted unit.

Sonic Heading Gyro
# 910205
Heading Gyro and Inertial GPS-compass:
The Sonic Heading Gyro is the heart of the system. It is a light weight and maintenance free electronic Gyro Compass, manufactured by TECNAUTIC since 1992. It sends the ships heading to the cockpit displays and to the Autopilot with a precision of 0.1degrees. In addition, it transmits rate of turn with a precision of 0.05 degrees per second. Without delay and with zero hysteresis (no backlash). Rough seas and rapid motion will not cause an error of the Heading Gyro. The Sonic Heading Gyro is attached either to a display unit or to an electronic steering wheel. The gyro is slewed to magnetic north by a flux gate or by a GPS receiver. Together with a GPS, the gyro forms an Inertial GPS-compass on a moving boat. This feature is especially useful on large vessels, where a flux gate cannot work reliably.
Sonic Heading Gyro: $358.60    Web price $286.88

Flux Gate Compass
 # 910105
The Flux Gate Sensor is an electronic version of the magnetic compass. It is used here to synchronize the Sonic Heading Gyro to magnetic north, to avoid long term drifting of the Gyro. Any short term heading fluctuation, which is normal for every Flux Gate Magnetic Compass, will not be reflected on the Sonic Heading Gyro. The Flux Gate Sensor has automatic deviation compensation.
If your mission requires the utmost redundancy, you may even add a second sensor to the system. It will be used automatically, if needed.
Flux Gate Compass: $514.91   Web price $411.93

Autopilot Computer
(Drive Box)
#230100
The Autopilot Computer positions the rudder, so as to achieve the desired heading, track or wind angle of the boat, determined by the Autopilot Mode.
It makes use of an already installed Autopilot Rudder Drive or any new rudder drive.
It connects to the bus cable with RJ-45 connectors which can be installed with a simple crimp tool, if custom wiring is selected. Standard cables have connectors already installed.
The reversible rudder motor (12 or 24 Volts) and its current source (battery) are both connected to the Autopilot Computer. So is the electric By-Pass-Valve of a linear hydraulic actuator or the electric clutch of a mechanical actuator.
The same Autopilot Computer can drive a non reversing pump and associated switch over valves and the customer can select to either have the pump operating at constant speed, or be regulated between zero and maximum pump speed, to achieve a variable rudder speed.
Two Autopilot computers can be installed on the same data bus to drive two pumps, either alternating or parallel, in an augmentation mode, where the second pump starts only when a higher rudder speed is required. A second rudder sensor can be used by both computers, if installed. Such a redundant installation is common on commercial vessels.
On larger vessels, where constant hydraulic pressure is normally available, the same Autopilot Computer can drive electric servo valves or proportional valves instead of the rudder motor. This is ideal for Servo Steering and Fly-By-Wire steering, since the rudder can instantly follow a fast wheel movement.
Drive Box: $703.41    Web price: $562.73
